Dealing with Depression (DWD)

There are effective treatments and self-help skills to deal with depression.  Dealing with Depression (DWD) is meant for teens who have been coping with depressed mood.  This resource teaches a set of skills you can apply to your own life to overcome depression.

DWD is intended for:

  • teens with depressed mood
  • concerned adults who want to help a depressed teen
  • other teens who want to help a friend or family member

This resouce is meant to provide teens with accurate information about depression.  It is not a psychological or medical treatment, and is not a replacement for treatment where this is needed.  If expert assistance or treatment is needed, the services of a competent professional should be soughth.

This resource is based on the Dealing with Depression workbook created by Dan Bilsker, PhD, Merv Gilbert, PhD, David Worling, PhD, and Jane Garland, MD, FRCP(C), originally created through a grant from and in collaboration with the Ministry of Children and Family Development as part of the Child and Youth Mental Health Plan (2003), and was developed with the permission of the authors and the ministry and in consultation with them.
