Looking Glass Foundation

Since 2002, the Looking Glass Foundation has been helping countless people and families get to the other side of eating disorders. As much as we have been able to accomplish, so much more needs to be done.

People suffering from this disease, or who care about someone who is, need a community of support to fall back on. From the earliest intervention, through all the paths of recovery, through to sustained relapse prevention, eating disorders take hard work and commitment to overcome.

Today, while building on our established programming, the Looking Glass Foundation continues to innovate entirely new approaches to support that will fill gaps in existing services and create meaningful pathways between treatment options — so that those affected by this devastating disease are never entirely without support.

Online Peer Support

Our free, regularly scheduled real time Online Peer Support service provides an accessible, anonymous, and non-threatening alternative to conventional support groups – letting sufferers ease into a recovery community with greater comfort and at their own pace. It is available to people of all ages, anywhere in Canada, who are experiencing disordered eating, weight, or body image issues.

Led by a trained Looking Glass Moderator, each free chat session offers a safe, virtual, and confidential space for people to talk about what is going on for them, to share experiences, and to benefit from the empathy and understanding of others who get what this disease can be like.

Online Peer Support is intended to provide support, rather than therapy. Focused on recovery, these online conversations are non-judgmental and avoid sensitive subjects such as weight, diet, and specific eating disorder behaviours. Participants are welcome to chat or simply observe the flow of dialogue — whatever feels right for them.

Attentive moderation, along with the convenience of internet access, make Online Peer Support a popular and well-subscribed Looking Glass service.
